FAQ
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching focuses on the present and future, helping you take actionable steps toward specific goals, while therapy often focuses on emotional distress and the past.
What is your approach to coaching?
Adam’s coaching approach is warm, approachable, and relatable, especially for young adults. He tailors the process to each client, encouraging collaboration and empowering them to take an active role in their growth. This approach helps clients build confidence and develop the tools they need to tackle challenges independently, while Adam provides expert guidance, accountability, and support along the way. He employs motivational interviewing and focuses on amplifying strengths to create lasting change.
What is motivational interviewing?
Motivational interviewing is a client-centered approach that enhances motivation by exploring and resolving ambivalence, helping clients find their own motivation to change.
What are your qualifications?
Adam was trained by a PhD in neurobiology at an academic life coaching organization. He has extensive experience and a deep understanding, especially with ADHD.
How often do you meet, and is there a minimum session requirement?
Sessions are typically one 50-minute session per week, with the duration depending on the client’s goals. Many clients work with Adam for about a year, but some may pause and return with new goals. Sessions mainly meet on Zoom but can also be by FaceTime or phone call.
What is the typical demographic of your clients?
Adam primarily works with young adults aged 18 to 25. While this is his main demographic, he occasionally works with clients who are slightly younger or older.
How is communication handled with parents?
Adam is open about communication with parents. His phone number is included in all email signatures, and he sends follow-up emails after sessions. Parents are encouraged to reach out with specific concerns or reply to follow-up emails.
What does a first session look like?
The first session involves goal-setting, assessing various aspects of the client’s life to identify what’s going well and what isn’t, isolating areas for improvement, and setting both short-term and long-term goals.
What if I have an urgent update about my son or daughter?
Adam requests 24 to 48 hours’ notice for any additional requests or updates. These updates can be addressed via a brief scheduled check-in call. While emails are also encouraged, same-day emails may not be read before the session due to respect for other clients.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
Clients are allowed two late cancellations per calendar year. A late cancellation is defined as providing less than 24 hours’ notice. If less than 24 hours’ notice is given and the late cancellation limit has been reached, the session will not be reimbursed and will count as a completed session. This ensures we respect each other's time and have clear expectations.
Can sessions be rescheduled for important opportunities?
Of course! Yes, Adam is willing to waive the 24-hour notice requirement for rescheduling if a client has a significant opportunity, such as in business, entertainment, or a job, aligning with the goal of supporting their success.
How can I get another family in touch with you?
They can schedule a complimentary consultation here or you can share their contact details with Adam and he will reach out.
What is the timeline for change in coaching?
Many experience rapid, transformational shifts, while for others it may take longer and progress may be more gradual. Change varies for each individual.
Do you offer any payment plans or packages?
Sessions are billed one week in advance through the Acuity portal. While most clients pay per session, package options are available and listed in our coaching agreement.
